| The Contour Trekking Pole is the lightest pole that Black Diamond makes. Using poles while trekking and hiking is like having four-wheel drive for your feet. Made to cover a lot of ground quickly, the Contour has ergonomic foam grips with a 15 degree corrective angle to ease strain on wrists and arms. Tough aluminum shafts use the famous FlickLock, to insure adjustability in any condition, and binary adjustment to dial in the lower section. Three sections compact to a portable size that won't interfere with your stride when strapped to a pack. |

Reviews:
Black Diamond: Contour Hiking Poles These are really great!! I use them in all seasons, put snow baskets on for winter. They give great support and stability but don't tire your wrists. On steep down climbs, these are great to put forward and carry the weight of me and my pack instead of my knees getting it all. And for climbing uphill, they are great for giving boosts, especially with a heavy pack on. I highly recommend these to everyone.
good and not so good Good: comfortable, easily adjusted, light. Not so good: lightness leads to a pole that can't take much of a beating. If you trek in rugged terrain, these will last one or two years, at best. In my opinion, the few ounces saved in weight doesn't offset the cost of buying a new set of $100 poles every year, or so. Go with BD's heavier poles that cost less and last longer.
Weak, weak, weak! I really need only one to truly sum up my opinion of the Contour Trekking Poles: bad! They broke the first time out and sent me 20 to 30 feet rolling down a very steep hill. After that, I got Leki's, and they are great! They stood up well and greatly helped me through a difficult backpack through a portion of the Texas Big Bend 2 days ago. The Leki poles are winners in my opinion.
My first poles. These are my fist poles so I don't have anything to compare them to. They are light and sturdy and have held up quite well. It was a little awkward using them at first. I had a tendency to concentrate so much on what I was doing with the poles that I didn't know what my feet were doing. I had a couple of close calls! With a little practice though they feel quite natural and they are a definite plus when carrying 35-40 pounds. I feel much more stable and confident especially on rough down hill trails. If you've never used poles and or are considering purchasing a pair, I highly recommend these.
