| The CAMP XLC 490 crampon is a superlight aluminum alloy crampon equipped with CAMP's Quick Adjustment System and front and rear high-resistance thermoplastic binding system. In other words, the XLC 490 is super easy to put on, and they stay on. The QAS connects the heel and toe with an easy to use pull-through adjustment. Sooooooo lightweight.....
Obviously these crampons aren't made for blue ice, technical ice, or mixed rock & ice. They're fantastic for the occasional hard snowfield or easy glacier slog, and my back thanks me anytime I don't have to carry my steel crampons. The 370's are even lighter, but I went for the more flexible binding system. My only complaint is that the heel plate is a little narrow - it fits all my climbing boots well, but I have some wider-heeled light hikers that I occasionally wear for comfort on climbs that are mostly trail or rock, and the crampons don't fit the wide heel. Overall though, these were a great pickup!
