Reviews:
dakine split roller We used this bag all over Peru and it took a small beating. It was fantastic, weighed VERY little (which is why we bought it) and meets the airline size standard. The compartments are nice, and it is VERY STURDY denier nylon fabric. It outperfomed the Jansport that we bought. Wheels are tough and handles comfortable.
Excellent... but... Used this bag for my trip to Spain and Italy last summer. It held up great. It's constructed very well and the wheels are as solid as you will find in a travel bag. My one and only complaint about this bag though is that it usually does not stand upright on its own. So while standing in line at the airport counter or in line at the taxi stand you have to continually hold the bag up (which can get tiring after a while in a long line) or set it down flat and then bend down to pick it up again when you have to move.
Excellent Choice I chose the Split Roller over the others because of its size and convenient zippered compartments. I got the smaller 90. My biggest concern was having an overweight bag at airport check-in. In 10+ trips, this hasn't been a problem. The design allows you to organize your gear and access it easily. The wheels are durable and the exterior has withstood baggage-handler abuse without being ripped, frayed or torn. One reviewer's observation about the bag not standing upright on its own is accurate. However, you can resolve this by redistributing your gear and packing the heavy stuff near the wheels. The Split Roller is a great buy.
Great Bag I bought this bag as part of a cross country move for grad school, with intentions of using it for boarding trips as well. So far I have only made the move cross country, but even with just that I'm very impressed with the bag. I packed a whole lot of stuff in the bag but it was still under the 50 lb weight limit. The separate storage compartments were very helpful for organizing the move and I can see where they're gonna come in handy this winter too.
DAKINE Split Roller We took this bag on vacation to Rocky Mountain National Park. It held packs, coats, Leki poles, clothes, boots, etc. It took everything we threw at it, including the baggage handlers at DIA! It is an excellent travel bag.
