| The Marmot Hydrogen is the lightest full-size sleeping bag on the market. It is far more comfortable than the extremist bags that fit like skin on an apple. But this 30-degree bag still manages to weigh in at a ridiculous 1.5 pounds. What's more, it compresses down to the size of a balled up vest. A long lasting water-repellent finish protects the superior loft and warmth of the 900-fill down. And the shell itself is constructed with the same ripstop fabric that you'll find in a parasail, so you know it's tough as nails. This bag is suitable for backpacking and bike touring when every ounce counts. |

Reviews:
Outstanding Bag! I recently purchased the Marmot Hydrogen bag for a 10 day summer trip to the Maroon Bells in Colorado and wasn't disappointed. On a couple of nights the temperature dipped down into the mid 30s and bag was very warm. The Hydrogen also has ample room for larger folks. I purchased a long version and the it was able to handle my 6'3" 235 lb frame well (plenty of girth and foot room).Marmot constructed the bag with a 1/2 zipper to save weight. It took a couple of nights to get used to only having a 1/2 zipper. Bottom line is that I'm extremely pleased with my purchase.
Great Lightweight Bag! I purchased the long version of the Hydrogen bag and used it recently during a 10-day August backpacking trip to the Maroon Bells/Snowmass area in Colorado. The size of the bag concerned me a bit because I'm 6'3" and 240 lb. I had no fit issues. There was plenty of shoulder, hip and foot room for a larger person. The bag's 1.5 lb weight and its ability to compress is amazing! It freed up all kinds of pack space! The bag kept me perfectly warm on a couple 34 degree nights. 900 fill down, draft tube and hood worked well to prevent heat loss. To save weight Marmot installed only a half zipper on the bag. My only complaint with the bag is that I wish the zipper was about 6-8" longer. It would making getting into and out of the bag a bit easier. It did however, only take a couple nights to get use having only a partial zipper. Not a huge issue.Bottom line is that I loved this sleeping bag!
superb summer bag I've used this bag for everything from sea level beach camping to sub-freezing ski trips on Baker and Adams this summer, and it's been perfect. As with the other Marmot premium bags (I also have the Pinnacle and Couloir) it is a best-in-class choice. Easily packs down to the size of a cataloupe!
Light is Right I am a Special Forces NCO that purchased the Hydrogen just before deploying for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Unlike those in the south, those of us operating in the North with the Kurds faced night-time temps in the 20’s in March to the mid to high 30’s by mid May. The Hydrogen proved to worth every penny. I was never cold and relished the extra room in my overpacked Ruck Sack, and wouldn’t trade the shed pounds for anything. I was concerned with the half zipper limiting the speed in which I could get out of the bag if the situation required, but never was an issue. I will continue to use this as my primary bag as the issue three piece bag is a synthetic nightmare of weighty, space-wasting government waste and abuse, and my other civilian bags while better, come nowhere near the performance for the space and weight as the Hydrogen.
Great Summer Bag I used my new Hydrogen on a four day 36 mile trip in Kings Canyon Nat. Park with night stops at altitudes of 8000' up to 11000' with temperatures down to 30 degrees. One of the nights I had to leave the zipper open I got so warm. And at Rae Lakes I was still warm at 30 degrees outside. I had plenty of room in the bag and I would say it is one of the best purchases I have made in all of my backpacking gear. Love the low weight of the bag.
