| The Pinnacle is Marmot's most versatile 3-season sleeping bag. This 15-degree mummy bag introduces a new anatomical "Sarcophagus" design that has bumped up the squirming space, the warmth retention and the overall comfort. The new design includes a bigger, 11-baffled footbox, a revamped hood that won't compress when you cinch it and even a hidden draft tube pocket to keep your alarm clock out of your face but close to your ear. |
Marmot Pinnacle Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down |
Bottom Line: The Marmot Pinnacle is your classic backpacking, camping or trekking mummy bag. It is roomier and even more durable than the sturdy Hydrogen bag without tacking on a whole lot of weight. |
Reviews:
Is there a new challenger? This sleeping bag is the best of its class. Period. I had other 800-fill bags, but the Pinnacle is the pinnacle of its class. The sarcophagus shape adds a few inches of more girth, without sacrificing body heat. The hood and footboxes are the most comfortable in any sleeping bag I've ever been into, and the silky feeling is the best after a long day of hiking. The 15 degree rating is very accurate. Some say it will keep you warm down to 0 degrees, but I believe it might be exaggerated. For its quality and comfort, the Pinnacle is the best investment you can make in a down bag. What else is there more to say? For if I go on to say about how light it is, how comfortable it is and how quickly you forget the comforts of home in this bag, there won't be enough room to talk about it. Bottom Line: Get it, I promise you will quickly forget the hefty price it carries.
Excelleng Bag! I just spent most of two weeks in my new Marmot Pinnacle bag. The coldest I'm aware of was mid-20's (bag is rated to 15) but I stayed plenty warm (sweating a little). I was wearing a layer of capilene, but just because I don't like the feeling of nylon on skin. I love the way the draw cords are designed and REALLY love how small it packs. My TNF Prophet pack is now a multi-day pack! (Thanks to small sleeping bag). The stiffener around the zipper keeps it from snagging the nylon - a constant aggravation for me with my old TNF bag.
Girrrrrthy The Marmot Pinnacle is a great bag. Beware, though: it is extremely warm and is too much for most conditions. However, you don't ever have to worry about the cold. It is much wider than most bags, so it is more comfortable. Stuffs down reasonably small, but not so much as to elicit a gasp of wonder. The main thing, though, is warmth: it's just so plump and girthy. I got the footbox area pretty dang wet cause I, uh, left the car windows open and it, uh rained. But my feet stayed dry. I was impressed. It's a wicked lot of dough, but worth it. I recommend it most highly. Girthy.
Pinnacle Review I am a warm sleeper and even though this bag is quite roomy i was unfortunately too hot in this bag to temperatures of minus 12C in just my jocks causing plenty of condensation on the outside of the bag over the chest and waist area. I would suggest renting or borrowing a bag to test your limits before making a purchase. This is not to say however that there is anything wrong with the bag ...it is top quality.
Best 3-Season Out There I chose this bag after a great deal of research. I liked the pack size as well as the weight. You can get a lighter bag, but not with a full zipper (which is crucial for warmer nights). The pack size is wrong on both the men's and women's models. Both pack to around 14" x 8" (450 in3) and can be made smaller if necessary. Most people will not need additional compression. The fill weight and comfort of the bag are excellent with enough room to move and even store a Nalgene bottle in the foot box. I only wish Backcountry.com sold the dryloft version, but I would normally use a vapor barrier just in case.
