You need to be prepared for the latter of the two. How can anyone find you when where you are isn't where you thought you would be? The best way is to carry a Personal Locator Beacon. PLBs are designed for trekkers, boaters, campers or any outdoor enthusiast that will be heading into the unknown. This easy to use piece of equipment is intended only for situations of dire emergency. McMurdo builds their Fastfind PLB to send a 406 kHz distress signal that alerts rescue services when activated. The signal will be transmitted for 24 hours while reception by local rescue services is usually less than 90 minutes. Also, A 121.5 MHz International Aircraft Emergency Frequency signal is transmitted as a honing beacon for Search and Rescue services. A PLB will will alert rescue services and give let them know where to look within a 30 nautical miles. |
