Tour Lumbar Pack - 660 cu in
The Mountainsmith Tour Lumbar Pack will comfortably haul your gear on any length day hike you dare undertake. Ultimate freedom of movement is the payoff for carrying a lumbar pack—and the Tour is expertly equipped to ensure the mid-sized loads it can carry are evenly distributed and compressed securely against your body. Mountainsmith consistently comes up with nice touches to their gear, like an Omni Belt that easily handles heavy loads, then tucks out of sight for convenience. 32 ounce Nalgene bottles fit easily in the Tour's mesh water bottle pockets. For those days you don't feel like completely saddling up, grab the dual carry handles for use as a briefcase in more urban adventures. A removable, padded shoulder strap converts the Mountainsmith Tour pack into a sling bag. 420d high density ripstop nylon ensures the Tour will last a lifetime.

Bottom Line: Not too big, not too small-a sweet day hike lumbar pack.

Easily the best hip system out there. The mesh water bottle holders are Nalgene friendly. The shockcord system is rain jacket friendly. The upper hip belt adjustments are big load friendly. The compression straps are small load friendly. The bomber zippers are fumbling hand friendly. Don’t settle for tan lines, this pack is your friend.

hip for your hips...
This pack can go from town to the backcountry with ease. Lots of places to be mildly organized, but also a large enough main pocket to fits all of the 10 essentials (if that includes a REALLY pack-able rain jacket). There isn't much excess room, but it will satisfy most short day hikes or for work or airplane carry-on.

Peace of mind on a photo assignment
I bought this item based on a write-up in WIRED magazine, and I am fairly satisfied with it. The review indicated that photogs found it useful. My only complaint is that it lacks in padding, but I can always add some Domke-wraps to the lenses and delicate items. The pack was comfy and never painful. I'll probably take it everywhere.

Lovin' it!
I was a little insecure about this purchase at first. I read a good review about it in an issue of WIRED Magazine, targeted at photographers. But a fellow photog didn't think much of the item when it arrived. Then, I went to work on a shoot with a video crew, and noticed that two of the crew had the same item! So, I am no longer apprehensive about the viability of this item, and am wearing it with pride on the set. Thanks!
