Aether 60 Backpack - 3700 cu in
The Osprey Aether 60 is the pack that spawned Osprey's innovative Ethereal suspension. The total suspension weight of only 9.3 ounces belies the carry of these packs. However, Osprey hasn't skimped on details or durability. It's just not worth it to save a few ounces. The Aether 60 offers you nearly 4000 cubic inches of capacity in a 3.5-pound package. Its unique design features the Ethereal suspension (but without framesheet and stay for weight reduction), a sewn-in hipbelt, the adjustable IsoForm harness, internal peripheral composite struts, built-in mesh side and front pockets, and Excessory capability. Ski and ice axe loops make the Aether 60 an excellent lightweight winter pack as well.

Bottom Line: Lose the weight without losing support.

Reviews:

great lightweight option
I tried on a lot of lightweight packs in an effort to get my total pack weight below 20 pounds with food and water. This was the winner -- it has a good suspension system, the only really usable load lifters of any ultralight pack I tried, and the large is almost 4000 cubic inches for only 3.5 pounds. It can easily handle loads up to about 35 pounds; beyond that and the hipbelt starts to twist. It has a large lid pocket and a good shovel pocket, and compresses well. You can't compare this to the sub-2 pound frameless rucks -- the Osprey is far more comfortable on my back, without a huge weight penalty.

aether 60 backpack- the winner!
After intense comparison among ultra-light packs, I came to decide on the Aether 60 for its 1)comfort!! 2)bomb-proof construction, and 3)ultra-light weight with all the bells and whistles. I tried the granite gear ozone and the Gregory z-pack and found the Aether far superior in every way and worth the extra ounces. Now that I have it and it’s under routine abuse, I suggest it to anyone who will listen. I will soon be taking this pack on a 3-month minimalist backpacking trip across Western Europe.

aether 60 backpack
Loaded it up with about 30lb and wore it for about 2 hours. It felt great. I have an Aether 75 and this feels better. It form fits to the body with a natural feel. I’m 5'-6", 170lb. I need to do a 6-8 mile day hike to understand its limits, but the future looks good. It will be the pack of choice for my 9-day wonderland trail hike in August.
